IS IT GOOD IS IT BAD?

Photography: Saturday Life Girl

I‘ve never used a primer before so using the too faced hangover replenishing face primer, was a whole new experience for me. I have always been against face primers as part of my beauty routine. My thoughts were I already put enough on my face, why add something else? But after reading some beauty blogs and watching a few YouTube videos of people talking about primers, mostly about this one and how it makes your makeup always looks so smooth, perfect and last longer, I was convinced to step out my beauty comfort zone and give it a try.

For those who have never used a primer, or have no idea what it does, a primer is used as a foundation for your makeup. They help hydrate and keep your skin healthy and even help your make up stay put and last longer throughout the day, so you don’t have to keep touching it up. Primers are also used to promote a smooth look for your face and makeup, a sort of base layer your makeup can adhere to.

So here we go! The tube is small, but a little goes a long way, and you don’t want to drown your face in it. The bottle is also appealing. Maybe it’s the colours or the label, but I was instantly drawn to it.

The label on the front of the bottle state that it has probiotic elements, coconut water, and skin revivers. This primer is said to be vegan-friendly and silicon-free, something I was impressed with. Alleged benefits of this primer are to smooth, brighten, and hydrate the skin, all the while using ingredients that are healthier alternatives too many other primers on the market today. I was a little skeptical, but I decided to withhold my judgment until after a few uses.

The first few applications were in the morning before I applied my makeup. The texture is somewhat creamy, and it has a nice glide to it. I only needed a little and covered my face, especially my cheeks, under my eyes and my forehead. It has a wonderfully light and pleasant smell to it too. My skin tends to be on the dry side, and after a full day of work, I was pleasantly surprised to feel that my skin felt soft.

The second thing that I noticed after using the primer is that my concealer applied so much better. My skin seemed to welcome it with open arms (or pores), and it blended nicely and quickly. My makeup did seem to stay all day. I didn’t apply any more concealer or powder, and my skin looked healthier and happier overall. (In the picture of me my makeup had been on for a good 8hrs and was still going strong)

On the weekends I usually tone down my makeup routine. Instead, I decided just to use the Too Faced primer in the morning to give my face a break from applying concealer. My face had a nice “dewy” look to it, without it appearing shiny or oily. I kept touching it all day because it felt so smooth and it smelled good.

Overall, I can see why this is a go-to primer for many people. It can be used daily either under your makeup or as a standalone product that will keep your skin healthy and fresh-looking.

I understand why the primer is called the Hangover Replenishing Face Primer because it is a healthy boost for your skin. Late nights, heavy makeup, lack of sleep, and not enough water can take its toll on my skin, and this magic primer seemed to give my skin the boost it desperately needed. I like the bottle, the fragrance and the texture and the benefits were impressive. I now use this primer as part of my daily routine even if it is a no-makeup kind-of-day.
